Halligan halted (Updated)

I’ve just been informed that the nomination of Caitlin Halligan has been stopped by the Senate. Halligan is President Obama’s left-liberal nominee for a lifetime slot on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Details to follow. In the meantime, I want to thank the Power Line readers who urged Republican Senators to hold the line against this nominee.

UPDATE: 51 Senators supported cloture; 41 Senators opposed it.

Lisa Murkowski, who is ideologically opposed to filibustering nominees, was the only Republican who supported cloture. Lindsey Graham came through with a “nay” vote.

The following Republicans did not vote: Crapo, Hatch, Johanns, and Vitter.

JOHN adds: The Associated Press helpfully explains what happened this morning for the benefit of those who know nothing about Ms. Halligan:

Republicans say Halligan is too liberal to sit on U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and cited citing her work on lawsuits against gun manufacturers. The National Rifle Association opposed her nomination.

That’s it. No mention of her radical record on terrorism; just that she was opposed by the NRA.
