Snowden and the NSA! (With Apologies to the Kingston Trio)

If you know the old Kingston Trio tune “Charlie and the MTA,” well, it was only a matter of time until someone re-wrote the tune for Edward Snowden.  That someone was me.  Herewith “Snowden and the NSA,” with a rough cut Karaoke version below you can download for your listening pleasure:

Verse:

Oh let me tell you of a story ‘bout a boy named Snowden on this tragic and fateful day;  He put thumb drives in his pocket, dumped his stripper girl and took down the N-S-A!

Chorus:

But will he ever return, no he’ll never return, and his fate is still unlearned; He may sit forever by the gates of Moscow, he’s the boy who’ll never return.

Verse:

Snowden handed his passport at the Hong Kong Airport, In exchange for asylum way; When he got there Mr. Putin said, Hold on sonny, This is where you’re going to stay!

Chorus:

But will he ever return, no he’ll never return, and his fate is still unlearned; He may sit forever by the gates of Moscow, he’s the boy, who’ll never return.

Verse:

Now all night long Edward sits in the airport asking what will become of me? How can I afford to pay my lawyer in DC and my Wiki-leaks en-try?

Chorus.

Verse:

Snowden’s life looks down at the Moscow station, Until Morales came along to waive; You come down to Ecuador for your vacation, But the Europeans wouldn’t cave.

Chorus.

Verse:

Now you citizens of U.S, don’t you think it’s a scandal, how we knuckle to the N-S-A?  Fight the Orwell state, And while were at it here, Give a finger to the T-S-A!

And here, from the Lovely and Talented Mrs. Hayward (as Hugh Hewitt calls her), is the first ever “studio” recording of “Snowden and the NSA”:

Look out Capitol Steps!

JOHN adds: Sensational! “MTA” has long been my favorite Kingston Trio song. And congrats to the L&T Mrs. Hayward!
