My Favorite Model…

…has long been Bar Rafaeli, for reasons that require no explanation. When a woman looks like Bar you can forgive anything, even dating Leonardo DiCaprio. But Rafaeli has not been terribly popular in her native Israel, mostly because she dodged service in the IDF and later explained, in a moment of ill-advised candor:

I don’t regret not enlisting, because it paid off big time. That’s just the way it is; celebrities have other needs.

More recently, however, the swimsuit model has shown more loyalty to her native land. Her Twitter feed, which is actually rather entertaining, is often posted in Hebrew, and Bar expresses sentiments like “Shabbat shalom” and, upon her return to Israel, “Home sweet home.” She posts photos of herself both with friends and siblings, and without.

But what, you may ask, is the occasion for this post? The occasion is twofold. First, I will not be covering the Miss World pageant this year because of its preemptive capitulation to Sharia, so I thought our readers might appreciate a substitute. Second, Rafaeli has been in the news.

Roger Waters, formerly of Pink Floyd–one of a number of bands that I have missed completely over the years–is doing some kind of show in Paris, which Rafaeli attended. She was delighted to see a photo of herself as part of a video at the concert, and tweeted:

Crazy thing … Went to the Roger Waters show in Paris, and saw a pic of myself on the wall!!! #respect!!! I’m honored

But Bar then learned that Waters is a virulent Israel-hater who has urged other artists to boycott that country to “support all our brothers and sisters in Palestine and Israel who are struggling to end all forms of Israeli oppression.”

So she reversed course, tweeting in Hebrew:

Roger Waters, you better take my picture off of the video art at your shows. If you’re boycotting – go all the way.

She also termed Waters “comfortably dumb” on the subject of Israel and the Palestinians–a fair characterization. The incident has catapulted Bar in the estimation of her countrymen–that plus, I would think, the astonishing amount of taxes she must pay. Bar gets the last word:

Conclusion of the day… THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME

But I get to choose the last photo:

Which reminds me: I gotta get an Instagram account!

UPDATE: As noted, I don’t know a thing about Pink Floyd, but our resident music expert–Scott–explains that Rafaeli’s “comfortably dumb” is a reference to a PF song called “Comfortably Numb.”

STEVE adds: Dude–we’ve got to work on your knowledge base of pop culture.  I got the reference immediately, and I was never much of a PF fan.  When a supermodel outdoes you in crucial 70s-era pop culture references. . .

JOHN responds: Hey, man, what can I say? There were whole decades that I missed because I was working. Like, pretty much all the time. In the case of the 1970s, I think that was a good thing!
