Man in the Red Bandana

This video was produced by ESPN two years ago, but I hadn’t seen it until tonight, when my son pointed it out to me. It tells the story of Welles Crowther, a 24-year-old equities trader and former lacrosse player who worked in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Crowther, who signed up as a volunteer firefighter when he was 16, was one of many heroes of September 11. Be forewarned, the video is an unabashed tearjerker. Ten years had gone by since the terrorist attacks when ESPN made the video, but Crowther’s parents’ pain is still fresh.

The video is uplifting, but it is also a useful reminder of what miserable bastards the terrorists are.
