Who Are the Real Suicide Bombers?

This is really too easy: President Obama is willing to negotiate with Iran, but not with the House of Representatives. Commentators have been all over it, and I don’t really have much to add. Except to note that not only has Obama refused to negotiate with the House, he has also had his spokesman describe Republicans as suicide bombers. The irony is rich: those who are concerned about $17 trillion in debt “have bombs strapped to their chests,” while the world’s biggest sponsor of actual suicide bombers–you know, the ones who blow people up, as opposed to disagreeing with Democrats–are newly-discovered moderates.

Cheap shots aside, it is not surprising that Obama is more comfortable dealing with Hassan Rouhani than with Congressional Republicans. Obama doesn’t really care about foreign policy. The foundational belief of the leftists among whom Obama came of age was that America (or “Amerika,” as the Left spelled it) is too rich and too powerful. So Obama has a general desire to make the United States poorer and weaker. He is doing a great job so far. But as to specific foreign policy issues, all Obama wants is to sweep them under the rug: Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, and now Iran. Just give me a fig leaf, Obama says, so I can get on with what I really care about–transforming the United States into a government-dominated country, against its will. No doubt Obama sees Rouhani as an ally, as they want the same thing: Iran left in peace to develop nuclear weapons, while the administration and the United Nations declare Iran a problem solved. The consequences won’t come until Obama is safely out of office.

So it’s business as usual at the White House.
