Adventures in Obamacare

The next best thing to clamming up about the serious technical issues that have plagued Healthcare.gov is being interviewed by CNN’s Sanjay Gupta about them. Inviting him in for an interview yesterday, Kathleen Sebelius recited the party line on the beauties of Obamacare while testifying that the issues were kept from Obama prior to October 1. It’s a good thing she wasn’t under oath at the time.

CNN reports on the interview here. Bridget Johnson reports on it here. The video is below and it is well worth viewing in its entirety if you can take it.

Sebelius says in the course of the interview that, given the start date of insurance to be purchased on Healthcare.gov on January 1, 2014, “No one is losing coverage now.” The truth, however, is that, contrary to the promises repeated relentlessly to promote the law, millions of Americans are losing their current health insurance coverage because of Obamacare. What about that, Madam Secretary? It’s a shame Gupta didn’t see fit to ask.

Current columns that belie the line toed by Sebelius include David Hogberg’s “The eight biggest falsehoods in Obama’s Rose Garden speech” and Megan McArdle’s “Is Obamacare in a death spiral?” McArdle’s “Seven ‘solutions’ that won’t save Obamacare” is also helpful.

The Wall Street Journal adds to the context in the editorial “1-800-ObamaCare-Denial” and Henry Payne addresses another lie of Obamacare in “Obamacare’s middle-class sticker shock.”
