Obama’s Shutdown Theater Reaches New Low

Well, admittedly that’s a close call. It’s hard to top trying to block people from seeing Mount Rushmore, or imprisoning vacationers at Yellowstone Park. But this really could be the nadir:

[A] South Carolina man took it upon himself today to do some grounds keeping at the Lincoln Memorial.

Chris Cox was pushing a lawnmower and toting a chainsaw on the north side of the monument, doing the landscaping work that Park Service employees would normally do.

“The building behind me serves as a moral compass not only for the country but for the world,” Cox said. “And over my dead body are we going to let this deteriorate.”

Cox felt the memorial should not be neglected.

“We got men coming here to see these memorials in wheelchairs carrying respirators. They had hand to hand combat with the Nazis. Come on man, this is a no-brainer to keep this area clean for them,” he said.

So Chris Cox is something of a hero. It is hard to see how anyone could object to his effort at temporary groundskeeping; it costs the taxpayers nothing. But Cox was getting in the way of Barack Obama’s political agenda, so he had to go:

The U.S. Park Police told ABC News that Cox was “told to leave and he left.”

So, because the executive branch is supposedly so short of cash, Barack Obama is paying federal employees to prevent work from being done to benefit national monuments.

Cox was not arrested or fined for violating the official closure of the monument, said Sgt. Paul Brooks.

I have always been an optimist, but no more. I no longer live in the United States of America. This is some other country I don’t recognize.
