Re-use Towels? Quelle Horreur!

Anyone who travels these days has gotten used to the hotel bathroom notices about how we should all save water by re-using our towels so they don’t have to be washed.  In other words, behave like we do at home.

So it must be a shock that senators and congresscritters, who are having to suffer the shutdown privation of having to push their own elevator buttons, now have to re-use towels in the capitol gym.  (Speaking of which: just why isn’t the capitol gym closed?)

From The Onion The Hill.com:

No one is there to check members into the facility in the basement of the Rayburn House Office Building, which is open exclusively to current and former House members.

Members don’t only have to pick up their towels — they have to reuse them for their showers, because there is no more laundering service.

Lawmakers, including some who live in their offices during visits to Washington and use the gym’s showers to clean up, say they need the gym to stay open. . .

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) said the Senate gym is “open just like the hallways are open,” but the four staff members who usually help run the facility were no longer present.

On Monday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said that the Senate’s gym was becoming “rank.”

Hate to break it to you, Graham, but that rank smell you detect when you walk into the gym?  Maybe there’s a more proximate source than you think.

All I can add is that it’s a good thing John Kerry isn’t still in the Senate.  He wouldn’t stand for this.
