The not so grand non-bargain

Yuval Levin has the best analysis I’ve seen so far of Speaker Boehner’s quest for a grand bargain. Levin sees the bargain Boehner is angling for as not particularly grand.

The whole thing is worth reading, but here’s Levin’s bottom line: “the political system that could pull [the bargain] off would probably not have gotten into the situation that requires it.”

John and other ex-debaters of a certain age will recognize this as a variation of the old “should-would” argument.
