Obama has taken a number of tacks to ride out the furor over the exposure of his statement that “If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.” As with all the foundational lies of Obamacare, it is a lie of the bald-faced variety, as the real-life events of the past two weeks have made plain. Reality bites.
It’s hard to keep up with the lies Obama has unfurled to deal with the, ah, public relations fix he’s in. He’s lying as fast as he can. My favorite so far is the amended version of his statement: “If you had or have one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law and you really like that plan, what we said was, you could keep it if hasn’t changed since the law’s passed.” That is classic, and classically inept. We’re stupid, but we’re not that stupid. It’s almost funny.
At NRO, Michael Tanner takes up the challenge of documenting Obama’s “Lying about lies.” Tanner doesn’t get to the Orwellian rewrite above, but his column is makes a valuable contribution to understanding the fix Obama’s in. It should make it a little more difficult for Lynn Sweet, John Dickerson, Chris Cillizza et al. (see “The five percent solution”) to be played.
