Does anybody really know what time it is?

The New York Times has posted video and text of Obama’s State of the Union address last night here. The Times has also posted excerpts reflecting “Obama’s agenda.”

I found the speech mind-numbing and soul-killing. The thought that Obama and a team of speechwriters devoted weeks to the speech…you’ve got to be kidding.

The incoherence. The anecdotes. The thrice baked, still phony statistics. The pallid rhetoric. The false bravado. The rank dishonesty. The fake sincerity. The reiterated threat of a veto…in deference to the sensibilities of Iran’s murderous mullahs. The sheer boredom of it all (or almost all, if you stayed awake for the salute to Sergeant Remsburg.).

Fat Albert, Michelle Obama is on your case. Your days are numbered.

“Opportunity is who we are.” Obesity is not who we are. Not deep down inside.

By the way, did we win the war that will be “over” later this year? Just wondering.

And, lest we forget, “climate change” is real. The climate, it is a changin’. “The debate is settled.” It was settled over the last 15 years during which temperatures failed to rise as predicted. Who settled the debate? I think he forgot to say that it was “the science.” The speechwriters must have nodded off.

What about immigration? Obama seems to think we need more of it. I wouldn’t blame you if you missed this:

Finally, if we’re serious about economic growth, it is time to heed the call of business leaders, labor leaders, faith leaders, law enforcement — and fix our broken immigration system. (Cheers, applause.) Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have acted, and I know that members of both parties in the House want to do the same. Independent economists say immigration reform will grow our economy and shrink our deficits by almost $1 trillion in the next two decades. And for good reason: When people come here to fulfill their dreams — to study, invent, contribute to our culture — they make our country a more attractive place for businesses to locate and create jobs for everybody. So let’s get immigration reform done this year. (Cheers, applause.) Let’s get it done. It’s time.

Does “law enforcement” support Obama’s foreclosure of enforcement of current law as he sees fit?

By the way, those independent economists — are they the same ones who told us that Obamacare would save the average family $2500 a year in premiums?

Watching the muted reaction of Eric Cantor to Obama’s call for immigration reform made me think. House leadership must know how unpopular it is with those of us who make up the heart of the party. Taking it up is bad policy and worse politics. It would be a gratuitous act of self-destruction. Yet Cathy McMorris Rodgers seems to agree that “it’s time.” In her response to Obama’s address, she said this:

And yes, it’s time to honor our history of legal immigration. We’re working on a step-by-step solution to immigration reform by first securing our borders and making sure America will always attract the best, brightest, and hardest working from around the world.

As for Republicans, you have to wonder. Does anybody really know what time it is?
