Quotations from Co-Chairman Keith

Keith Ellison represents Minnesota’s Fifth District in Congress. He proudly identifies himself first and foremost as the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. With a little help from Karen Hunter (as he notes in the Acknowledgements), he has now written the memoir cum manifesto My Country, ‘Tis of Thee: My Faith, My Family, Our Future. Ellison writes in chapter 14 (“What’s the Matter With Congress?”):

When I appeared on Sean Hannity’s TV show on the Fox News Channel to discuss the sequester in March [close: it was February] 2013 he called President Obama “President Panic” and implied that the president wasn’t telling the truth about the significant harm that would result from the sequester. Hannity showed a video clip with spooky music playing during the president’s speech regarding the negative effects of the sequester. I took offense to the way that Hannity presented the president’s words and called him a “yellow journalist.”

I am not proud of how I reacted, and I wouldn’t do it again. But over the next several days, a number of small donations came into my campaign because people liked the way I had confronted Hannity.

I wrote about Ellison’s appearance on Hannity this past February in “Ellison exacerbated.” Ellison doesn’t quite capture the nature of his performance on the Hannity show. It appeared on Fox, but you can see that Ellison was playing to the MSNBCrazy crowd. The video of Ellison’s appearance is below.
