Attkisson Leaves CBS News

Sharyl Attkisson, who has reported on Fast and Furious and is one of the few journalists in Washington willing to investigate the Obama administration, has resigned from CBS News:

Attkisson, who has been with CBS News for two decades, had grown frustrated with what she saw as the network’s liberal bias, an outsized influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said. She increasingly felt like her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air. …

Feeling increasingly stymied and marginalized at the network, Attkisson began talking to CBS News President David Rhodes as early as last April about getting out of her contract. Those negotiations intensified in recent weeks, and her request was finally honored on Monday.

Attkisson’s detractors at CBS say her work has been “agenda-driven,” which means that she has been critical of the Obama administration. She has also investigated Republicans and a variety of other issues in the course of winning five Emmy awards. But here is a question: do you remember any journalist who produced stories critical of the Bush administration being criticized by media insiders as “agenda-driven?” No, neither do I.

Attkisson is working on a book tentatively titled Stonewalled: One Reporter’s Fight for Truth in Obama’s Washington. I can’t wait!
