It Isn’t Funny, So Is It Dead?

President Obama has filmed a video with a comedian named Zack Galifiankis to promote Obamacare. At least, I take it that he is a comedian; you can’t prove it by the video. It is six and a half minutes long, with the first three or four minutes consisting mostly of exchanges of low-grade insults between Obama and Galifiankis, followed by a plug for Obamacare. The video is on something called “Funny Or Die,” and part of a series starring Galifiankis called “Between Two Ferns.” Presumably the point is to reach young people and convince them to sign up for Obamacare. Given that it appeared on “Funny Or Die,” the video is remarkably unfunny:

It is hard to see this as anything other than an act of desperation. Not even Pajama Boy is lame enough to sign up for Obamacare on account of that plug. Some have criticized Obama for being unpresidential in the video; the criticism is certainly correct, but given his other failings, it is hard to get exercised about that one.

I will leave the last word to my oldest daughter, who is a young person and therefore part of the video’s intended audience. She tweeted:

I might find @BarackObama’s attempts to be “hip” cooler if he wasn’t so horrid at his job.
