Trey Gowdy on the case

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen made news yesterday when he told the House Oversight Committee that it might take years before congressional investigators can review all of the documents pertaining to the inappropriate targeting of Tea Party groups. “What they want is something that’s going to take years to produce,” Koskinen told Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., the ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, in reference to Republican requests for IRS documents.

Rep. Trey Gowdy had a few questions for Koskinen related to the IRS’s slow-walking response to the committee’s subpoena for Lois Lerner’s email messages. He knows how to ask a question and the exchange is interesting.

Reminder: The charge that Richard Nixon attempted to misuse the IRS for political purposes made its way into the second of the three articles of impeachment against him. Nixon “endeavoured” to misuse the IRS, as set forth in in article 2. Nevertheless, Nixon’s efforts to misuse the IRS were futile. They went nowhere. Nixon and his henchmen desired the IRS to “screw” their political opponents, but their efforts were a pathetic failure.
