Ethics Complaint Filed Against Harry Reid

Tea Party Patriots have filed an ethics complaint against Harry Reid, arising out of his increasingly bizarre conduct, particularly his vendetta against Charles and David Koch. Reproduced below is the complaint itself. It cites this post by me along with a number of other sources.

The complaint alleges seven “potential [ethics] violations regarding Senator Reid’s conduct”:

First, Senator Reid’s attacks violate the Senate’s prohibition against using congressional space and official office resources to engage in partisan campaign activities. …

Second, Senator Reid’s attacks should be deemed “improper conduct which may reflect upon the Senate.” …

Third, Senator Reid has apparently violated the U.S. Senate Internet Services Usage Rules and Policies. …

Fourth, Senator Reid appears to have violated federal law limiting the use of the Capitol Visitor Center. …

Fifth, Senator Reid appears to have violated federal law limiting the use of funds set aside for operations of the Capitol Visitor Center. …

Sixth, Senator Reid’s apparent fundraising efforts at the Capitol Visitor Center film screening appear to violate Senate ethics rules regarding campaign contributions. …

Seventh, Senator Reid’s apparent exchange of political favors for political donations from Tom Steyer violates (1) 18 U.S.C. §201(b)(2), which prohibits him from receiving “anything of value” in exchange for “the performance of any official act” and (2) Senate Rule 37.1, which prohibits him from using his official position for personal gain. …

Will this complaint get very far? Given the composition of the Senate Ethics Committee, I doubt it. In any event, however, it is good to see people pushing back against Reid’s outrageous behavior.
