More Fun Out of Ohio

A reader tips us to an update of the story we brought you the other day about Ohio’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Ed FitzGerald, who was caught with an Irish lass in an office complex parking lot at 4:30 am recently.  The latest is that Mr. FitzGerald, a former prosecutor and city councilman, seems to have some difficulty keeping a driver’s license:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Not only was Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald driving with a learner’s permit when police found him with a woman in a Westlake parking lot, he had gone 10 years without a valid permanent state driver’s license.

He had the temporary permit for a few of those years, but records suggest from 2002 to 2008 he had no license to drive in Ohio at all.

FitzGerald, now a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, applied for temporary learner’s permits in 2008, 2010 and 2011, according to records obtained from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The one-year, temporary permit allowed FitzGerald to drive legally with a few restrictions.

The March 2008 permit application signed by FitzGerald indicated he previously held an operator’s license and that his Ohio ID or license expired on his birthday in 2002.

During that time, when he would not have been legally allowed to drive, he served as assistant prosecutor, city councilman and mayor of Lakewood.

Exactly what all my driving instructors looked like

Of course, this sets up the perfect alibi for the other evening.  He was getting driving lessons!  That’s the ticket!

But perhaps we’re only a few days away from hearing something like this from Ohio’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee: “Oh, wait—I thought you said you were looking for a goober candidate!”  Pass the popcorn.
