The lonesome death of Alberto Nisman

The BBC reports that Argentinian prosecutor Alberto Nisman was found dead on Sunday. He was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his head at his apartment in Buenos Aires. The BBC report notes that a gun and a cartridge shell were found next to Nisman’s body. The Times of Israel has more here and the Wall Street Journal has more here. One would infer from the BBC report that the cause of Nisman’s death was suicide.

Times of Israel editor David Horovitz doubts it. David draws on notes from his interviews with Nisman in his column “Who will obtain justice for Alberto Nisman?” Horovitz strongly suggests that Iran may have fulfilled its pledge to kill Nisman for his investigation of Iranian officials in connection with the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires (see this Times of Israel article for background). Please check out Horovitz’s column.

UPDATE: Reuters quotes Argentina Secretary of National Security Sergio Berni: “Everything indicates it was a suicide. We have to see if gunpowder is found on his hands.”
