Who Will Replace Jon Stewart?

Jon Stewart is retiring from Comedy Central, possibly to run for office as a Democrat. Stewart is a liberal who devoted pretty much his entire show to bashing conservatives, although he occasionally trained his fire on Democrats, thereby obtaining an undeserved reputation for objectivity.

So who will replace him? Comedy Central could make a truly bold move and replace Stewart with a Republican, but of course they won’t. The monopoly cannot be broken. They will come up with a liberal, probably someone cruder and more monolithically leftist than Stewart.

Still, let’s assume they have an open mind. There are lots of possibilities. On his radio show tonight, Hugh Hewitt refused to confirm or deny that he has been offered Stewart’s spot. He was kidding, of course, but why not? Hugh knows 1,000 times as much about politics and public policy as Jon Stewart.

Then there is our friend James Lileks. James is smarter than Stewart by 20 or 30 IQ points, and a whole lot funnier. Why shouldn’t Lileks have a show on Comedy Central? It would be an upgrade over Jon Stewart, and a huge upgrade over whatever left-wing hack Comedy Central has in mind to replace him.

These are only a couple of possibilities; there are many more. Is there any chance that Comedy Central might think outside the box and hire a non-liberal to replace Stewart? I think the likelihood of that happening is zero, even though it could easily lead to higher ratings for the network. Liberals in the entertainment industry don’t make decisions based on the bottom line, they make decisions based on their ideological commitment to an intellectually bankrupt leftism.

STEVE adds: I predict there will be a lefty groundswell to bring back Keith Olbermann to succeed Stewart.
