Carly Fiorina to run for president and pursue the vice presidency

Carly Fiorina has announced that she is running for president. Fiorina disclosed her intention on ABC’s Good Morning America show. She stated: “I think I’m the best person for the job because I understand how the economy actually works. I understand the world; who’s in it.”

In a sense, Fiorina is the Herman Cain of 2016. Both lack any experience in elected office, but both ran major businesses.

Fiorina ran Hewlett-Packard, a more formidable entity than Godfather’s Pizza. On the other hand, Fiorina’s had a troubled tenure at Hewlett-Packard and was forced to resign after six years.

I’m no more enthusiastic about Fiornia’s candidacy than I was about Cain’s. The Republicans should nominate a candidate who has successfully governed a state or who has mastered public policy issues, including foreign policy, while serving with distinction in the U.S. Senate (note: co-sponsoring amnesty legislation with Chuck Schumer doesn’t count as serving with distinction).

My sense is that Fiorina is actually running for vice president. She’s more than intelligent enough to know that (1) she can’t win the presidential nomination but (2) the nominee will be tempted to name a female running mate.

An impressive showing on the stump and in debates might vault Fiorini ahead of other female VP possibilities — e.g. Susanna Martinez or Kelly Ayotte.

So far, I’m reliably told, Fiorini’s speeches have been quite impressive. She specializes in bashing Hillary Clinton.

This is God’s work. It is also the traditional role of the vice presidential candidate.
