Another Day, Another Terrorist Attack

Two young Israeli hikers stopped to help a Palestinian who waved them down. It was a fatal mistake: the Arab opened fire, killing one of the Israeli men and injuring the other:

The man who was killed in Friday’s shooting attack near the town of Dolev in the Binyamin region has been named as 25-year-old Danny Gonen from the city of Lod.

Gonen was an electrical engineering student.

Gonen’s uncle, speaking to the Walla! news website on Friday, said that Danny and his friend had been shot during a hike in the area, something they had done often.

According to investigators, the two victims were finishing a trip to a nearby spring and had begun leaving when a Palestinian Arab standing at the side of the road waved them down, apparently asking for help.

As soon as the Israelis’ car pulled up he asked them for water, and then shot them at point-blank range and fled the scene.

The United Nations’ Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, condemned the murder and “call[ed] on all sides to exercise the utmost restraint.” Of course, one side has already failed to exercise restraint, i.e., has committed the murder.

Hamas, now regarded as a legitimate political organization in many quarters, praised the murder:

“We welcome the unique and heroic operation that took place near Ramallah,” said Hamas spokesman Husam Badran. “We, and with us all our people, view with the utmost respect and appreciation those pure hands who held on to the resistance and turned their fire toward the occupier.”

Flagging down a passing motorist, and then shooting him when he stops to help–how heroic can you get?

This kind of thing happens constantly in Israel. My oft-stated opinion is that Israel should annex Judea and Samaria, offer Arabs living there cash bonuses to leave for Gaza or elsewhere, and confer citizenship on those who remain, and are willing to take an appropriate oath, after two generations. It will take at least that long to cleanse the “west bank” of the cultural rot inflicted by Arafat, the PLO, Hamas and the other murderous “leaders” of the Palestinian Arabs.
