Question of the day

President Obama spoke to the Catholic Health Association yesterday in defense of Obamacare. The White House has posted the text of his remarks here. The White House has also posted a video of the speech (below) and an overfull Web page celebrating the deep thoughts of our Dear Leader on the subject. The New York Times story on the speech is here.

The Supreme Court’s pending decision in King v. Burwell provided the backdrop for the speech. Obama has attacked the Supreme Court for taking up King v. Burwell and asserted that only a twisted reading of the statute could account for a result he would deem unfavorable. Of the players on the American political scene, we are to believe, only Obama himself has clean hands and a pure heart. In this mode of his, the opposite of what he says is the truth. The man is beyond embarrassment. He is the political equivalent of a sociopath.

Obama cannot defend without attacking. In the case of his Catholic Health Association speech he attacks the opponents of Obamacare as cynics unfit to share Gaia with him. His speech is full of the discredited mythology with which he promoted Obamacare in the first place. The exposure of each of the key points he advanced to sell the bill as calculated prevarications isn’t slowing him down now. At the risk of drawing a subpoena from the Department of Justice, I will hazard the observation that the guy makes my skin crawl.

I’m not saying that laughter is the best medicine in this particular case, but it can’t hurt. I have come to appreciate Lou Dobbs Tonight on FOX Business Channel at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern) for a reliable dose of this particular medicine with the show’s Question of the Day. The Question of the Day is carefully drafted to elicit a North Korean-like consensus of opinion among those of us who enjoy the show. Last night’s question and the results so far:

Q: Do you believe President Obama has the standing and credibility to defend Obamacare on the basis of morality?

2% Yes
98% No

It’s not too late to vote here.

UPDATE: I guess the Chicago vote hadn’t yet reported in when I took note of the poll this morning. As of mid-afternoon, Yes has taken a 75-25 lead over No. Is Media Matters for Obama on the case?
