Here in Minnesota, the legislature liberalized carry laws a decade or more ago. In response, most businesses–many in a fit of huffy self-righteousness–posted “guns prohibited” signs in accordance with the new law. Over the years those signs came down, as businesses asked themselves what, exactly, they might be deterring. Today you hardly ever see them. Yet the foolishness of “gun-free zones” lives on, usually where it does the most damage–in schools and, rather bizarrely, military posts. Who, exactly, thought it was a good idea to disarm Marines?
