Will Biden Run? Of Course He Will!

The Wall Street Journal reports that Vice President Joe Biden is inclined to run for president:

Vice President Joe Biden, who has long been considering a presidential bid, is increasingly leaning toward entering the race if it is still possible he can knit together a competitive campaign at this late date, people familiar with the matter said. …

A surprise weekend trip to Washington to meet with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), a darling of the party’s liberal wing, represented a pivot from potential to likely candidate, one Biden supporter said.

Will Biden join the race? Of course he will! Vice presidents nearly always do try to succeed the president under whom they serve. Moreover, Biden was elected to the Senate at age 29, and has been dreaming about being president ever since. He has made a couple of ill-fated attempts, in which his weaknesses as a candidate have been exposed. But when has that ever deterred a lifelong politician afflicted with the presidential bug?

Biden, or someone close to him acting with his approval, leaked the story that his son Beau’s dying wish was that Joe run for president. How can anyone do that and not run? It borders on the inconceivable.

The truth is that Slow Joe, considered by many to be a nice guy by Washington standards, is too dumb to be president. Sarah Palin trounced him in their 2008 vice-presidential debate. That was the memorable occasion when Biden, who for years was the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in which capacity he oversaw numerous Supreme Court nominations, revealed that he didn’t know that Article I of the Constitution relates to Congress, while Article II sets out the powers of the executive branch.

Biden shouldn’t have gotten through law school, but somehow he did. Still, after observing Barack Obama for six and a half years, Slow Joe must be asking: how smart do you have to be?

The idea of the 72-year-old Joe Biden riding to the rescue of the Democratic Party is laughable. In truth, his entry into the race will be great for Republicans. No matter how hard leaders of the Democratic Party try to spin it, everyone will understand that he is getting into the race because Hillary Clinton is in deep trouble. This is important, because the only thing Hillary has going for her is her alleged inevitability. For the Democrats to admit, implicitly, that she is a lousy candidate is equivalent to acknowledging that the Empress wears no clothes. Her political downfall, already evident, can only accelerate.

So, Joe, welcome to the race! But before you step foot on the debate stage, you might want to read the Constitution over a couple of times.
