Patricia Smith still waiting

RealClearPolitics has posted the video below of Andrea Mitchell’s emotional interview of Patricia Smith yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Smith is the mother of Sean Smith, one of the four killed in the Benghazi consulate attack in September 2012. Unlike media types such as Mitchell, Mrs. Smith was not impressed by Hillary Clinton’s performance before the House Benghazi Select Committee. As RCP puts it, Smith said she learned nothing from the hearing and expressed her outrage at Clinton for failing to offer any explanation why her son was “sacrificed.”

“You can’t understand,” she exclaimed. “My only child was murdered and no one has told me why.”

My attention was drawn to the interview by J.D. Durkin. Durkin provides background on Mitchell’s interview in “Mother of slain Benghazi American explodes on Andrea Mitchell Reports: ‘You can’t understand!’” After tracing Mitchell’s friendly journalistic relationship with the Clintons, Durkin observes: “It is insulting to see how even the line of questioning towards Patricia Smith is playing a role in the larger Mitchell/Clinton/NBC fortress-enclosed love fest. Smith’s outburst is warranted, and her impassioned plea deserves coverage on all of the cable news channels and beyond.”
