Bernie Sanders has sued the Democratic National Committee over the DNC’s withholding of a Democratic voter database from the Sanders campaign. The dispute is somewhat convoluted; if you want the details, the Washington Post has a good report.
The bottom line, though, is as described by Sanders’ campaign manager, Jeff Weaver:
Weaver accused the party of purposely sabotaging Sanders by refusing to restore access to the voter information.
“By their action, the leadership of the Democratic National Committee is now actively attempting to undermine our campaign,” Weaver said. “I think if you look at the pattern of conduct . . . it looks like in this case they’re trying to help the Clinton campaign.”
Well, yeah. That has been obvious for a long time. The Democratic National Committee is a subsidiary of Clinton, Inc. The DNC knows that Hillary is a lousy candidate, so it is doing everything possible to shield her from public view so she can quietly be handed the party’s nomination. The Democrats are holding hardly any debates, and if the Clinton camp gets its way, no one will watch them. Mrs. Clinton may be under indictment by the time the convention rolls around, but it is considered impolite to mention this fact in Democratic/press circles. The whole process is greased for Hillary. Years ago, we had people called “reporters” who would write stories about this kind of thing.
The Democrats must be delighted that just about all attention is focused on the Republican race, and in particular, on the Democrat-turned-alleged-Republican, Donald Trump. Trump, who has been captured on video praising Hillary effusively, couldn’t provide her with better cover if he were doing it on purpose.
Meanwhile, the Republicans have several candidates who, I think, will beat Hillary decisively if they can get the nomination. I think the strongest is probably Marco Rubio, whose youth, energy and eloquence contrast strongly with the tired, out of touch Mrs. Clinton. Plus, he is a lot smarter than she is, and is one of the top foreign policy experts in the Senate.
NBC News created this behind-the-scenes video of Marco on the campaign trail. Judge for yourself; I think that he comes across as smart, likable and well-intentioned. It is interesting that the NBC reporter who spent the day with Marco clearly seems to like him. Imagine nominating a Republican candidate whom some reporters, at least, actually like! That could be a game-changer. Here is the video:
The GOP has a great message, but we need a messenger. And we need the messenger to be someone who didn’t just recently decide he’s a Republican, despite, by his own account, agreeing with the Democrats on most issues.
UPDATE: One more thing–it is late in the day for Sanders to begin complaining that the DNC is in the tank for Hillary. He crossed the Rubicon in an earlier debate when he passed on an opportunity to comment on Hillary’s reckless (at least) or criminal (more likely) violations of laws and State Department regulations on the handling of classified information. At that point, he made it clear that he wasn’t in the race to win it, but rather, in Washington Generals fashion, to provide token opposition to Hillary. His current complaints are too late to generate much sympathy.
