Calling “The Oberlin College Choir”

The ordeal of Oberlin College is a long-term affair. One poignant episode occurred earlier this year when the Oberlin College Republicans and Libertarians (plural?) hosted Christina Hoff Sommers for a lecture on campus this past April 20. In advance of the lecture, the Oberlin Review published a letter to the editor by several aggrieved students under the heading “A love letter to ourselves” (“Content Warning: This letter contains discussion of rape culture, online harassment, victim blaming and rape apologism/denialism“). After the event the Review covered the lecture in “Students protest Sommers’ lecture.”

“The Oberlin College Choir” responded with the satirical aggressions in the video below. The video caught the attention of the Los Angeles Times, which followed up in “Choral parody takes aim at Oberlin, mocks political correctness” (“Trigger warning: The could potentially be offensive to liberals, feminists, trust-fund hipsters, choral music lovers, self-absorbed millennials and anyone affiliated with Oberlin College”). The Oberlin College Choir denied any role in the video. HotelEarth subsequently confessed to the crime.
