Chelsea Clinton appeared in Omaha yesterday to campaign for Hillary Clinton and our man Dave Begley was on the scene. The Omaha World-Herald’s report is here. Dave’s report is below:
Nebraska may be relevant in March and I’m not referring to the Cornhusker basketball team. The Democrat Caucus will be held on March 5, 2016, and 23 delegates will be awarded on a proportional basis. A party official from Lincoln told me that the Sanders people send her unsolicited, nasty emails. As in Iowa, the vote is expected to be hotly contested.
Chelsea Clinton arrived in Omaha yesterday to raise money and speak at a dress shop. She repeated some of her mother’s and father’s themes. Hillary is a problem solver but also a change maker. Obama’s work must be protected and expanded. She mentioned a number of small items that are hardly pressing issues much less federal matters. They included early childhood education, adoption of foster children and nurses in public schools. Hillary will lower drug prices. Madam Hillary has the capacity to bring limitless change to our everyday lives. I say leave us alone.
According to Chelsea, Hillary had two main achievements at State. She created two new categories of jobs: (1) a monitor for women’s rights around the world; and (2) an LGBT rights monitor. According to young Clinton, this amounts to “making government work.” The security at our consulate in Benghazi, however, didn’t work too well and four Americans paid for it with their lives.
The untimely death of Justice Scalia was mentioned. The crowd murmured its acknowledgment of the importance of his now vacant seat. Chelsea Clinton accommodated them by discovering in the Constitution the requirement that the Senate now give President Obama’s nominee a “fair hearing.”
Gun rights, abortion, and the EPA’s ability to regulate carbon dioxide by executive order are all now in play. Chelsea remarked that millions had been spent attacking her mother via “unregulated and unaccountable money.” That would be the First Amendment at work.
Unlike her mother and father, Chelsea took questions from the crowd. I give her full credit here. The final question asked how Hillary maintained her dignity in the face of political indignities. The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy has been working on Madam Hillary for as long as her daughter can remember. Hillary deals with it by saying constantly that she “will take serious criticism from serious persons seriously.”
Here’s the MSM’s chance at the next debate (please credit Dave Begley of Omaha and Power Line): Why didn’t you take your legal duties seriously and protect America’s secrets from America’s enemies?
Chelsea Clinton is a graduate of Sidwell Friends, Stanford, Columbia and Oxford but she speaks in a sing-song manner with occasional lapses of “uptalk” at the end of a sentence. At least she doesn’t bellow like her mother. I’ve seen the girls of the mock trial team of Omaha’s Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in competition and they were all better speakers than Ms. Clinton.
A baby next to me fussed a little. Chelsea jumped right in and reminded the crowd of her baby back at her $10.3 million dollar apartment in New York City. Speaking of which, I used to feel sorry for Chelsea Clinton. She didn’t pick her parents. But I don’t feel sorry for her anymore.
She is now an adult and reportedly has a net worth exceeding $15 million. Supposedly she earned it as a consultant. Not likely. I suspect that her parents had more than a little to do with it and that she wants to keep the money flowing. With Hillary in the White House and the Clinton Family Foundation continuing to rake it in the possibilities are limitless. Who will stop them? Nobody has yet.
