Trump’s trumpet

Paul Mirengoff quoted briefly from the statement issued by Donald Trump as the results in Wisconsin were reported last night in his rolling commentary here. The Washington Post’s Robert Costa obtained the statement from the Trump campaign. The statement hasn’t been posted on the Trump for President site. Costa’s tweet is the only place I can find the unabridged text (below). It’s worth a look. It’s kind of amazing but for the fact that we have come to expect the likes of this from Trump.

In the statement Trump claims to have “withstood the onslaught of the establishment” forces arrayed against him in Wisconsin. I’m not sure how to translate that. He lost the raw GOP primary vote decisively to Cruz, 48 percent to 35 percent. Out of the 42 delegates up for grabs, 24 will be allocated by congressional district. The AP has posted the primary results by congressional district here. Trump narrowly won the Third Congressional District. (I can’t find results for the Fourth CD.) Trump has won 3 of the 42 delegates available.

Trump derides Cruz in the kind of terms Communists used to reserve for enemies of the state. He baldly accuses Cruz of illegal conduct. He all but calls him vermin. As the prospect of an open convention in Cleveland comes ever closer, Trump prepares for battle in his own endearing style.

UPDATE: In the final tally Trump won two congressional districts and picked up six delegates to Cruz’s six and 36.
