Splendid evening last night in San Francisco, at the annual William F. Buckley Prize dinner hosted by National Review Institute, this year honoring the great George Shultz, secretary of state under Ronaldus Magnus, and Michael Grebe, the long time head of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. Shultz is 95, but still has it going on, telling some of the great old stories about bringing down the Soviet Union back in the 1980s.
Lo and behold who should I run into, but Power Line’s very own tech guru extraordinaire Joe Malchow, but also the Hoover Institution’s Jeremy Carl (go back and catch our podcast with Jeremy here if you missed it a few weeks ago); Peter Robinson, and of course my future partner in crime, John Yoo. (Also Eliana Johnson, but I didn’t have the presence of mind to get a pic, and besides Scott would waste time scrutinizing it for evidence of whether Eliana was enjoying the open bar a little too much. All I’ll report is that I had a drink with Eliana at the Francis Drake Hotel bar late in the afternoon before the whole evening got under way at City Hall, so let’s just say we got off to a fast start.)
