Democrats’ Fundraising Freakout

Every dark cloud has a silver lining. Donald Trump’s victory represents a rare fundraising opportunity for the Democrats, and they are taking advantage of the hysteria that currently prevails on the left. Thus, today’s email from the Democratic National Committee has the subject heading, “Trump’s latest plan is modeled on the internment of Japanese-Americans.” Of course it is! Here is the body of the email. Click to enlarge:

Pretty much every sentence is a lie. No one has proposed creating a “Muslim registry.” The proposal that may or may not be implemented–my guess is that it won’t be–calls only for a list of visitors and immigrants from countries where there are active terrorist groups.

The “Trump advisors” citing internment as a legal precedent consist of one guy, Carl Higbie. Higbie is a former spokesman for Great America PAC. Is he a Trump advisor? Apparently not; he says he has “engaged in no ‘formal conversations’ with the president-elect’s team.” I have no idea whether he has ever met Trump.

In any event, Higbie cited the Supreme Court decision upholding internment as legal precedent for a registry of certain classes of immigrants and visitors, while also saying that internment was “horrific” and a policy with which he fundamentally disagreed.

The Democrats write: “Before Donald Trump even takes the oath of office, his administration-in-waiting is already looking for a way to relive one of the darkest moments in the history of our country”–i.e., internment. That is a flat-out lie. No one in the Trump camp has proposed, or even hinted at, internment of anybody, and any such suggestion would be ridiculous on its face. The concept of interning Muslims is a fantasy dreamed up by the Democratic National Committee to raise money from suckers.

A few months into the Trump administration, it presumably will be obvious to even the most credulous Democrat that Trump has no intention of interning Muslims, or carrying out any of the other bizarrely nefarious plans which the Democratic Party apparatus has dreamed up. Will that be a problem for the Democrats? Will rank and file Democrats who chipped in their $10 or $25, believing the DNC’s lies, realize that they have been played for fools?

I doubt it. By then the Democrats will have moved on to new fundraising fantasies. How many Democrat foot soldiers either recall or resent the absurdities that their party peddled about the now fondly-remembered Mitt Romney in 2012? None, as far as I can tell. So the Democrats’ lie machine grinds on.
