To the UMass Lowell Campus Community,

As we move forward after this divisive election, it is critical to reaffirm our commitment to a diverse and inclusive culture and community, a commitment that has enabled us to build a university that brings great hope for the future.

First, I want to acknowledge the uncertainty and fear that many in our community are feeling.

I want you to know that our commitment to justice, respect for one another and, above all, your safety has not wavered. We will not discriminate against anyone based on race, religion, national origin, disability, gender expression or sexual orientation. We celebrate our differences and know that they make us stronger.

We believe in seeking truth through reason and informed debate. The free and respectful exchange of ideas and empathy for others are essential elements of our campus culture.

UMass Lowell is an institution that is engaged with the community, the nation and the world in addressing some of its biggest challenges. As educators, we remain committed to making the world a better place through this important work.

To our students, faculty and staff, I promise you this: You are welcome here. Your voice matters. You matter. Unfortunately, we have heard of troubling acts of bias and intimidation occurring recently around the country. If you should encounter such an act, stand up to it if you can or report it if you cannot so we can work together to address it.

Each of us contributes to the climate at UMass Lowell. I am proud of this campus and how we care for and support each other. I know that we will rise to every challenge, and go forward together.

In closing, I encourage you to connect with the following campus resources that may be helpful:
