Say It Ain’t So, Donald!

As Steve noted earlier, Donald Trump met today with Al Gore to talk about climate change:

Former Vice President Al Gore said Monday he had a “productive” meeting with Donald Trump, calling it “an extremely interesting conversation.”

Gore, a leading voice on the dangers of climate change, met with the president-elect at Trump Tower in New York City and spoke briefly to reporters afterward. He categorized the meeting as a “sincere search for common ground.”

There is no common ground with a lying, hypocritical, money-grubbing charlatan like Al Gore.

Gore said he also met with Ivanka Trump, the president-elect’s daughter. Transition officials said earlier Monday that the two would discuss climate change.

Maybe Trump meant it when he said during the campaign that he believes catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (that isn’t how he put it) to be a hoax or a fraud. Which it is. But then, why did he meet with Al Gore? Why did Ivanka Trump, who apparently has considerable influence with her father, meet with Gore? Who knows? Maybe Trump was just being polite, but that doesn’t seem his style.

This is the peril of nominating a candidate who has no track record in public life. Donald Trump hasn’t spent his adult life studying and dealing with public policy issues. That is precisely why many of his voters liked him; fair enough. But the down side of a candidate with no track record and a lack of fully thought-out stands on the issues is that he may blow with the wind.

As far as we know, Donald Trump has never studied the Earth’s climate and knows little about it. There could be a real danger that, knowing little about the global warming issue, he will fall for the kind of nonsense peddled by Al Gore and his ilk. With luck, that won’t happen. But this is far from the last time that conservatives will worry that Trump’s lack of familiarity with the issues may allow liberals to lead him astray.
