Steve Bannon, Antichrist?

I have met Steve Bannon a couple of times. I agree with him on a large majority of issues, and as far as I know he is a good guy. To the extent that he contributed to Donald Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton, we owe him an everlasting debt of gratitude.

But the Democrats have painted Bannon as something like Satan. I see this on a daily basis, as I am on many of the Democratic Party’s email lists. The nicest thing they ever call Bannon is a “white supremacist”–which is, of course, an absurd charge. Meanwhile, most Republicans have never heard of him.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll reported in the Washington Post shows how far the Democrats have descended into crazed demagoguery: more Democrats have heard of Steve Bannon than have heard of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer!

Fewer Democrats say they don’t know who Stephen K. Bannon is than say they [don’t] know who Charles E. Schumer is.

Put another way: Bannon is better known on the left than Schumer — by 12 percentage points. Schumer is less well-known among Democrats than he is among Republicans.

To repeat: More Democrats can identify Trump aide Steve Bannon than can identify their own Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer. The Post thinks this is a problem:

This is a problem for the Democrats. Clearly, efforts to spread awareness about Bannon on the left have been successful. Efforts to fill people in on the most powerful Democrat on Capitol Hill? Less so.

I see it differently. The Democrats are basically a hate group, and they are succeeding in what they attempt to do: instill hate against their opponents among a dwindling number of cult-like faithful. The Democrats have little interest in actual governance, i.e., the issues faced by their Senate Minority Leader. So it shouldn’t be surprising that among Democrats, Steve Bannon–utterly unknown until, say, six months ago–is a more significant figure than their own leaders in Congress. Is this the sign of a dying political party? One would hope so.
