Claremont Rioters To Be Punished?

We wrote here about the disgraceful shutting down of a speech by Heather Mac Donald at Claremont McKenna College last week. The Brownshirts who blocked access to the building where Heather was to speak included Claremont students as well as outsiders. The campus police did nothing to impede the mob; if anything, it appeared that they were there in order to protect the rioters.

No doubt CMC has taken a lot of heat over this fiasco. The college’s administration has finally vowed to take action against the rioters:

Claremont McKenna College students who helped shut down a Blue Lives Matter speech on campus last week may face suspension or expulsion, a campus spokesperson told The College Fix.

Joann Young, director of media relations at the school, said via email that campus officials will review videos, photos and social media posts as part of a thorough investigation into the matter….

Young said those found responsible face a range of possible sanctions, “including but not limited to temporary or permanent separation from the college.”

The college’s conduct was craven. The fact that leftists planned to disrupt Mac Donald’s speech was well known, and the administration had plenty of time to prepare. It made a conscious decision to let the barbarians rule.

Hiram Chodosh, president of Claremont McKenna College, said in a statement that “the school will develop strategies to make sure a mob of students cannot shut down a sanctioned campus event again.”

Donors to CMC and others will have to keep a careful watch on this situation to make sure that students are in fact punished. My guess is that the administration would prefer to do nothing and hope that the incident will be forgotten.
