Weiner raised again

Democrats think they have a bone to pick with FBI Director James Comey. They are angry with Comey for disclosing to the appropriate members of Congress the reopening in late October of what Hillary Clinton was pleased to call the FBI’s “security review” of her email set-up. In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Comey revisited the circumstances involving Huma Abedin and Anthony (“Not Again!”) Weiner.

In response to a question posed by Senator Feinstein, Comey testified regarding the infamous laptop of the infamous Anthony Weiner: “Somehow, [Clinton’s] emails were being forwarded to Anthony Weiner, including classified information, by [Clinton’s] assistant, Huma Abedin. And so [the FBI] found thousands of new emails.” Comey explained: “[Weiner’s] then-spouse [sic] Huma Abedin appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to him for him to print out for her so she could deliver them to the secretary of state.” The Washington Post’s account of Comey’s testimony is posted here along with the video below.

Comey restated his view that intentional wrongdoing is required to charge a crime here and that the FBI examined the new emails for evidence of consciousness of intentional wrongdoing. As Andy McCarthy recently explained again in this context, Comey is painfully (intentionally?) wrong on this point. Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin et al. should not be out free in what used to be called polite society lecturing the rest of us. Comey’s testimony today serves as a painful reminder of an unresolved Clinton scandal of the first order.
