The French way of war

Drudge has flagged this account of Vice President Cheney's speech in Dayton, Ohio today: "Cheney mocks Kerry's 'sensitive' war on terror." In "Great moments in Democratic oratory," we sought to draw attention to the statement of Kerry that Cheney mocked I take Cheney's speech as a good sign, i.e., that the Bush campaign is tired of playing defense and that the campaign proper is about to begin.

In his interview with Hugh Hewitt this afternoon, Cheney makes a point that has a far wider application than its immediate context of the war on terror: "A good defense is not enough." I hope the Bush campaign plays better on political offense than it has on defense. It certainly has enough material with which to work.
