In the Fall of 2004, PBS's AMERICAN EXPERIENCE made its first appearance advertising on blogs. In the increasingly varied media environment, we're always looking for new ways to reach our audience. Now AMERICAN EXPERIENCE forays into podcasting, making available a podcast based on [Monday night's] hour-long documentary, "The Carter Family: Will the Circle Be Unbroken," available here.

The film explores the lives of A.P., Sara and Maybelle Carter, starting with their childhood in Poor Valley, Virginia, and following their story through 1943, when they stopped playing and recording together. The film features rarely seen family photographs, memorabilia, and archival footage that chronicles the life and music of this famous and influential trio. Robert Duvall narrates.

I forgot to dig out Ms. Prestileo's message last night and missed the broacast. The podcast is just a four-minute clip featuring Gillian Welch. The site for the Carter family show is beautiful and informative, with clips of four recordings of Carter family songs (performed by Shawn Colvin/Earl and Randy Scruggs, Johnny Cash, George Jones, and Kris Kristofferson/Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) from the Dualtone tribute "The Unbroken Circle." Here's hoping the show will be rebroadcast some time soon.
