Sinking Like A Stone

One of this year's most heralded television series was ABC's Commander In Chief, starring Geena Davis. The show depicts a woman President and is generally viewed as a commercial for Hillary '08. It got all the fanfare one could imagine, and at the recent Golden Globes awards, Davis won the Best Actress statuette. One problem, though: the viewers aren't buying it. Media Life reports:

Commander In Chief’s Geena Davis may have walked away with the Best Actress in a Drama award during Monday’s Golden Globes, but among the American voting public she's sliding in the opinion polls that matter most, the ratings. They've been on a steady decline for the once-promising freshman show. “Commander” averaged a 2.4 rating on Tuesday night, an all-time low for ABC's political drama. That’s down 14 percent from the previous week’s 2.8 18-49 rating, its second lowest, for the show’s first original episode to air since Nov. 29. And it’s down substantially, 38 percent, from the show’s 3.9 season-to-date average.

Even the addition of a powerhouse producer like Steven Bochco early on in the season couldn’t halt the show’s decline. It peaked in its second week out, with a 4.8 rating, and has not come close to that level since.

I'm not about to pose as a TV critic; not only have I never seen Commander In Chief, I've never seen any show now appearing on television, other than news, sports, HGTV, What Not To Wear and American Idol. The last three reflect the influence of my teenage daughters, but, for what it's worth, I've never heard them mention Commander In Chief. Stacy London, yes; Geena Davis, no. So it looks as though, once again, the American public has sniffed out liberal propaganda and turned up its nose.
