Open for business
Townhall reopens today as a project of Salem Radio. Jonathan Garthwaite pulls back the curtain and explains the venture. The invisible hand of our friend Hugh Hewitt is evidenced in the architecture; Hugh inhabits his new Townhall digs here. The best column of the day belongs to Thomas Sowell: "Is patriotism obsolete?" (also featured here at the top of the RealClearPolitics honor roll).
JOHN adds: Let me add my congratulations to Hugh and all of our friends at Salem and Townhall. Traffic is obviously heavy at the site this morning, as lots of people are checking it out. My first impression is that there is an enormous amount of material there. The new Townhall is intended not just as a compendium of commentary, but as a center of activism. In that sense--no offense, Hugh!--it is a bit like the Daily Kos and some other liberal blog sites. It is, I believe, the first serious effort to create this kind of vehicle on the Right. And, of course, Townhall will be distinguished from the activist sites on the Left not only by the quality and seriousness of its writing, but by the Salem talk radio connection. For several years, Hugh has pioneered the synergy between talk radio and the web. Townhall has the potential to take that combination to a new level. How well it works will prove not only interesting, but important.
Speaking of talk radio, I note that Townhall will feature Northern Alliance broadcasts and podcasts here.
