The Times notes: "There is no Marine Academy"
John McCain's son Jimmy enslisted in the Marines in 2006. Time reported on his enlistment here. Last week the New York Times published an interesting article on Senator McCain's children. The Times article originally reported that several of McCain's children attended Jimmy McCain's graduation "from the Marine Academy." Today the Times runs a correction, appends it to the article, and revises the text of the article itself online. The correction reads:
An article on Thursday about John McCain’s relationship with his children misstated, in some editions, the site of a graduation ceremony for Mr. McCain’s son Jimmy, which was attended by several siblings. Jimmy McCain graduated from Marine boot camp; there is no Marine Academy.It's a correction that seems to betray certain of the limitations of the editorial chain of command at the Times, a subject explored at greater length by John below in "Obsession to the point of dementia."
