What do Norm Coleman and Mike Huckabee have in common?

A journalist writes from Los Angeles that he has received a call soliciting money on behalf of Al Franken's Minnesota Senate campaign. Franken hasn't yet received the Democratic endorsement to run against Minnestoa incumbent Senator Norm Coleman, but Franken is already running against him for purposes of fundraising.

Our friend notes that Franken is calling for money in the 323/310 area codes. He writes that the pitch was "your basic slam against all Republicans." He recounts the pitch roughly as follows: “You may have thought Al Franken was funny, but there’s nothing funny about what’s at stake in Minnesota. Al Franken is our best chance to defeat Norm Coleman and Republicans like Mike Huckabee.”

As I've observed many times, I don't think Al Franken has been funny since the expiration of the Al Franken decade in 1990. But that pitch is funny.
