The loneliness of the young Hillary supporter

February 4, 2008 Posted by Scott at 4:58 PM

Georgetown University student Alex Joseph reveals how he became the loneliest guy on campus in "Confessions of a young Hillary supporter." I offer a salute to the best-humored supporter of Ms. Hillary to make his voice heard before Super Tuesday:

My Obama-loving friends—that is, all my friends—have tried to rationalize my support in a number of ways. Maybe I have a thing for older women? Or it's some sort of latent Oedipus complex? Dear God, I hope not. Am I just doing it to get a date? No, and unfortunately, it's having the opposite effect. Being a college guy who supports Hillary is a like being the jock who takes the women's studies class to pick up girls. It just does not work.
The young Hillary supporter concedes that his encounters with Obamamania have made him a more effective advocate of Ms. Hillary, and allows that they have made him more thoughtful regarding his own political beliefs. If only his Georgetown education included exposure to conservatives, this young man would be a dynamo.

PAUL adds: It could have been worse. Joseph could have been a Hubert Humphrey supporter during the 1968 Democratic race.
