Mark Steyn has perfected a blend of commentary and humor in his weekly columns for Canada’s National Post. Steyn’s column today is terrific, deconstructing a typically loaded NYTimes profile of Colin Powell with the mockery it deserves. Steyn describes himself reluctantly buying a copy of the paper to kill time at the airport and scans the news:
“The news section had a profile of Colin Powell by Todd S. Purdum, who had been given special access to the Secretary of State. All seems to have gone swimmingly, except that evidently Mr. Purdum found it somewhat difficult to write while simultaneously hanging off the General’s zipper.”
Steyn proceeds hilariously to parse the text of Purdum’s story. Are conservatives the only folks who notice how utterly foolish the Times’ pundits and reporters are?
