One of the most interesting stories to appear since September 2001 was in the London-based Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper last week, in Arabic; the article is described by WorldNetDaily’s Geostrategy Direct.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat interviewed a former Iranian intelligence officer named Hamid Reza Zakeri, who claims that he left Iran “after learning of the government’s role in political assassinations.”
If true, Zakeri’s allegations are explosive. He says that:
Iranian intelligence and military groups have close ties to al Qaeda, especially top aide Zawahiri.
An elite Iranian military unit helped the al Qaeda terrorists train and plot attacks against Americans–but was not, Zakeri says, directly involved in the September 11 attacks.
Models of the World Trade Center, the White House, Pentagon and other United States government buildings “were in our headquarters” in Tehran.
Zakeri himself received training in North Korea.
Until a year ago, Iran collaborated with Iraq to facilitate smuggling, and the Iranian and Iraqi intelligence services continue to work closely together.
There’s more, read it all.
