Paul Johnson’s Five Lessons

Reader Michael Sharon pointed us to this excellent article by Paul Johnson in Forbes.com, titled “Five Vital Lessons From Iraq.”
Lesson 1 relates to France (“not to be trusted at any time, on any issue”); lesson 2 to Germany (“a different case”); lesson 3 to the U.N. (“a theater of hypocrisy, a sink of corruption, a street market of sordid bargains and a seminary of cynicism”); lesson 4 to NATO (“in its present form and composition NATO is out of date”); and lesson 5 to the role of the U.S. in the world (“Fate, or Divine Providence, has placed America at this time in the position of sole superpower, with the consequent duty to uphold global order and to punish, or prevent, the great crimes of the world”).
I think he’s right on all five counts.
