More Democratic Anti-Semitism

Another Democrat strays into the slough of anti-Semitism; this time it’s Virginia’s Congressman James Moran. Moran said, at an antiwar forum in Alexandria: “If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this. The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going, and I think they should.”
Moran apologized for his remarks, which he said were misinterpreted. He was only trying to make the point that “if more organizations in this country, including religious groups, were more outspoken against a war, then I do not think we would be pursuing war as an option.” So he could have said “Elks” or “Rotarians” or “Methodists,” but just happened to say “Jews.” No connection to Israel; sheer coincidence.
