Rick Atkinson of the Washington Post reports that “jubilant crowds” greeted our troops in Najaf near the tomb of Ali, son-in-law of Mohammed. Braving sporadic gunfire, several thousand Iraqis greeted and applauded a U.S. patrol. Special Forces officers compared their reception to the Macy’s day parade and to the liberation of Paris.
