Then there’s Sally Jenkins

Sally Jenkins is the daughter of the legendary Dan Jenkins, author of novels like Semi-Tough, and a sportswriter of the old school described in my post below. She writes about sports for the Washington Post. Ms. Jenkins favors social commentary, often from a feminist perspective but not of the knee-jerk variety. A typical Jenkins column is of only mild interest to me, with the exception of one dazzling insight buried somewhere in the middle. For example, this column about college coaches behaving badly strikes me as nothing special, except for this passage: “Grown-ups are running this country again. Whether you like the fact or not, people like Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney are in charge, responsibility is the new chic, and there is extremely low tolerance for overserved boyish high jinks from people who are paid to be leaders.” Amen to that.
