June Carter Cash, RIP

June Carter Cash literally had country music running in her veins. She was the daughter of Mother Maybelle Carter, one of the members of the original country music act, the Carter Family. She became a star in her own right and went on to even greater heights as the wife and musical partner of Johnny Cash. She wrote the immortal “Ring of Fire” with Cash about falling in love with him: “I fell for you like a child/Oh, but the fire went wild.”
She died on Thursday at age 73 of complications from heart surgery. I can’t find an obituary yet, but here’s the CNN story on her hospitalization earlier this week: “June Carter Cash hospitalized in critical condition.” The all-knowing Ken Hippler of KFAI’s Good ‘N’ Country weekly radio program devoted the first hour of his show today to her music.
